Located southwest of Mexico City on the coastline of the state of Guerrero, this area is known as The Golden Pacific. The beaches of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are 6 Km. (4 miles) apart from each other, connected by a freeway.
Zihuatanejo is a small town which still preserves that friendly atmosphere of an old fishing village.
The city offers several restaurants, boutiques, jewelry stores, bars, hotels and tourist markets. There are no tall buildings so as to conserve the village look. Every year Zihuatanejo bay is visited by more than 60 Pleasure Cruise Ships as well as sailboats and private yachts from around the world.
The downtown area, known as El Centro, is great for walking and wandering about, along with Paseo del Pescador, a brick-paved beachfront promenade along Playa Principal.
It is an ideal place for fishing, diving and snorkeling, and practising most water sports.
The beaches of Zihuatanejo are Playa Principal, Playa La Ropa, Playa La Madera and Playa Las Gatas.
