OVERVIEW
Situated in the state of Guerrero and between Acapulco and Mexico City, Taxco is a colonial city of winding alleys, white stucco buildings, geraniums and cobblestone streets.
The city is well known for its production of silver jewelry: there are over 300 shops in town and the Mercado de Artesanias Plata. If you are not interested in buying, there is also the Museo de la Plateria. One of the city's main attractions is the Santa Prisca Cathedral, built during the boom years.
As the city is located at 6,000 feet above sea level, visitors who are not in top physical condition to go up and down the town's hills can use a cable car that will take them to the highest spots.
