OVERVIEW
Puerto Escondido is located in the state of Oaxaca, near Acapulco. Its origins date back to 1928 when coffee growers of the Sierra Madre del Sur decided to build a port to export their precious cargo. What was once Punta Escondida (Hidden Point) became Puerto Escondido (Hidden Port).
The activity revolves around the harbor area which features a small marina, nightclubs, restaurants and excellent shopping on the Adoquin. The Puerto Information center is at the northwest end of the harbor shopping area. Above the harbor, there's the Riconada plateau and the central retirement area near the Bacocho beach. To the south, there's the famous Zicatela beach, known as the Mexican Pipeline, an international class surfing spot. Further south, another favorite beach, The Point.
Temperatures range from 75-95 F in the summer and 65-85 F in the winter.
