OVERVIEW
Situated in the state of Michoacan, Morelia overlooks the Valley of Guayangero and is the capital of the state. It has been declared a World Heritage Artistic sight by UNESCO.
It is a city of wide boulevards, lovely squares and shady parks. Its architecture dates back to the 17th and 18th century Spanish colonial style. Morelia boasts several masterfully restored mansions, churches and civic buildings. The city has a classic layout with a central square. It is also the educational, cultural and political center of the state.
Morelia attracts many foreigners studying Spanish and Mexican culture. Dozens of writers, artists, philosophers, poets as well as a community of retired Americans and Canadians have chosen the city as their place of residence.
Some other places of interest include a 17th century aqueduct with a convention center, a modern planetarium and a greenhouse.
