OVERVIEW
The state of Michoacan is a land of mountains and lakes, virgin beaches and crystal waters, theraupetic spring waters and geysers.
It was the home of the Purepecha Empire that dominated almost the entire central part of Mexico. The indigenous villages along the shores of Lake Patzcuaro, the Meseta (Plateau) Purepecha, the marshlands around Zacapu and the Canada de los Once Pueblos (The Gorge of the Eleven Towns) have well preserved the traditions and language of this ancient empire. Michoacan also offers a cultural inheritance found in its many traditions, fairs, fiestas, customs, music, dance, handicrafts, cuisine and architecture.
Some attractions include visiting the sanctuaries of the Monarch butterfly and sea turtles, enjoying the spas and swimming areas as well as taking part in adventure tourism.
