OVERVIEW
Mexicali, state capital of Baja California, is located on the border of Mexico and California, thus its name: MEXI-co and CALI-fornia.
Mexicali offers a wide variety of activities. Visitors interested in bullfights should visit the Plaza de Calafia Bullring. You can visit the City Gallery, exhibitions of the University Museum and its historical hall, as well as the Cucapah Community Museum, which preserves and spreads the customs and traditions of the Cucapah, an indigenous tribe in the region. You can also explore the Chinese Pagoda in Plaza de la Amistad, along the Garita border crossing, as well as the modern Civic Center. The city also features an excellent 18-hole course at the Club de Golf Campestre. Mountain biking trails are less than 30 minutes away to the west of the city.
Ideal places for freshwater fishing include Laguna Bogard, Rio Hardy, El Caiman, la Cienaga de Santa Clara, and El Bosque de la Ciudad. Some of the species found here are: Lobina, Bagre, Carpa and Tilapia. Ocean lovers will find great fishing areas on the coastline of San Felipe and open sea fishing on spots such as Roca Consag, Barco Hundido, Los Carros, Punta Estrella and Percebu.
Visitors can enjoy the atmosphere of the night and the rhythm of the music at its many discotheques, bars and restaurants.
