OVERVIEW
The town of Aguascalientes is famous for its nearby hot springs, thus its name- Aguascalientes means 'hot waters'. The Balneario Ojocaliente is an ideal place for visitors willing to enjoy from hot waters in its pools and bath houses.
Around Plaza de la Patria you can find most of the town's impressive architecture. Some places of interest include the Palacio de Gobierno, displaying the extraordinary murals of Chilean Oswaldo Barra Cunningham (disciple of Diego Rivera); the 18th-century cathedral with its collection of religious paintings; and the Casa de la Cultura, originally a wealthy Spanish hacienda, which now houses an arts school and exhibition hall.
But Aguascalientes is also known for being the birthplace of Jose Guadalupe Posada, a famous Mexican artist. The museum dedicated to his work displays many examples of his lithography as well as biographical info and photographs. The Museo de Aguascalientes has a collection of mostly modern art.
