OVERVIEW
Sheffield, the City of Steel, is England's fourth-largest city. It has fortunately been undergoing a period of restoration. Many listed Victorian buildings have been renovated and the Winter Garden has been created. Another new site worth visiting is the Ice Sheffield.
Sheffield is still at present the UK's major manufacturer of cutlery and silverware. It also gave us the athlete Sebastian Coe and broadcaster Michael Palin together with important bands such as Human League and Pulp. It has the most vivid and fashionable nightlife district of Devonshire Quarter, a pedestrianised shopping district called Moor Quarter and plenty of fun attractions including Millennium Galleries and Just for Kids indoor play centre.
Sheffield is the greenest English city, with 200 parks, woodlands or gardens within the city limits. Not far from its centre, you can visit the Peak District and the famous stately homes of Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall, also within easy reach.
