Bankside (stretching from Southwark Bridge to just beyond Tower Bridge). Among the most popular tourist attractions are the Tower of London, the new Millennium Bridge, Shakespeare's Globe Theater, the Tate Modern, Southwark Cathedral, and many trendy shops and restaurants at Hay's Galleria.
Bloomsbury (covering the area around the British Museum and the University of London). Camden, northeast of Regents Canal is home to beautiful residential streets dating from the 18th century, the vivid market at Camden Lock, Camden Town's bars, cafes, pubs and nightclubs, or the Zoo. , Chelsea, on the southwest, is synonymous with the Swinging 60''s. Brimming with a solid artistic and literary history, it's an appealing residential area with an important selection of art galleries, fashionable boutiques, antique shops and fine restaurants.
Chinatown (a small area around Gerard Street) Chinese restaurants and food shops. In the east, the City of London is built on the site of the original Roman settlement and is at present London's financial district-think Wall Street-now enjoying a revival of modern hotels, restaurants and wine bars, in the middle of the older "classics": St Paul's Cathedral, The Old Bailey and The Bank of England. Covent Garden, the old flower, fruit and vegetable market, is no longer there, but in its place you can find one of the city's most vivid areas with stylish shops, open-air cafes, restored marketplace, attractive bars and street entertainers in the piazza.
The East End is said to be one of the hippiest districts in London with contemporary bars, fine restaurants, and the liveliest shops and markets. Greenwich, to the south and east is home to the Meridian Line, at the Royal Observatory, the National Maritime Museum and the infamous Dome. In Holborn, buildings date back to the 15th century. This is London's legal epicenter. Islington is traditionally the home to non-conformist, actors, artists, journalist and politicians.
Knightsbridge and South Kensington (in the west) are among London's most prestigious areas with luxurious, expensive houses, good hotels, excellent restaurants and shops: Harrods, Harvey Nichols and the designer boutiques along Sloane Street. London Docklands is the area between the City of London and Greenwich, an area of great development over the last few years.

NottingHill in west London is well known for its annual August carnival-fullof color and rhythm-plus many new trendy bars, restaurants and the popular Portobello Road antique shops and market. Soho is home to Carnaby Street-the 60's center of fashion and an important cosmopolitan choice of restaurants, bars, clubs and other nightlife. The South Bank offers pretty riverside walks, and the world's best concert and theater venues, apart from the new British Airways London Eye.
The West End is comsidered London's land of theaters with important cinemas, excellent restaurants and main shopping centers, surrounding the streets around Mayfair, Westminster, Belgravia, Soho and Covent Garden.
