OVERVIEW
Cordoba is one of the most popular summer resorts and commercial centers. The first Argentine university was founded here. Some buildings of interest are the Cathedral, University, El Cabildo (Town Hall), Colegio de Monserrat, and the Company of Jesus churches, San Francisco and San Roque. There are residential and recreational areas such as the Complejo Ferial and tree-covered Parque Sarmiento.
Sierras de Cordoba belong to "Sierras de las Pampas", a region formed by tourist towns like Villa Carlos Paz, Cosquin, La Falda, La Cumbre, Alta Gracia, Villa General Belgrano, Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, La Cumbrecita and Mina Clavero.
Jesuits also left their mark in places such as Capilla de Candonga, estancias Santa Catalina, Jesus Maria, Caroya, Alta Gracia and La Candelaria, and the Jesuit block in Cordoba city. They have been declared World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO.
Cave paintings can be found in Cerro Colorado Natural and Archaeological Park. Another place of interest is the Quebrada del Condorito National Park, in the Pampa de Achala.
Sports lovers can enjoy mountaineering, trekking, and horseback riding in the Sierras of Cordoba as well as fishing and water sports.
Villa General Belgrano, a town of German origin, is famous for its beer festival held in October. Visitors can drink beer and try excellent Viennese pastries and chocolate. The country's most important folklore festival is held during the second half of the month of January in the town of Cosquin. There are also casinos in La Falda, Mina Clavero and Villa Carlos Paz.
Cordoba is famous for its black pottery, leatherwork, semi-precious stones, pastries, sweets, and home-made dried or smoked sausages. There are Arts and crafts fairs in Cosquin (2nd. and 3rd. week of January) and in Cordoba (March/April).
