OVERVIEW
The Cook Islands are a cluster of 15 islands in the center of the South Pacific with a population of 14,000 inhabitants.
Although the capital island, Rarotonga, is the most visited each year, the Cooks are largely unspoiled by tourists. Each island has its own qualities and invites the visitors to spend an unforgettable, different kind of vacation.
The islands offer a wide choice of restaurants in which visitors can taste typical food. Citrus, tropical fruits, island chestnuts and garden vegetables as well as seafood and coconut are among some of the local produce. In addition, visitors can also try the traditional Polynesian feast known as the 'Umukai'- baking food in an underground oven.
Local people are mainly Christian and their official language is English. The country has a tropical climate. The islands' currency is the New Zealand Dollar.
