Bordered by the Baltic Sea, Russia and Latvia, Estonia is a country of forests, lakes and islands. The capital of the country, Tallinn, features several historical and architectural monuments, especially in the old town centre where a steeple of the medieval Town Hall is located. Tallinn offers a wide range of restaurants, cafes and bars. Opera, ballet and classical music performances are held regularly. On the banks of the Parnu River, there lies the small town of Parnun, known as a seaport and health resort. Haapsalu, a small town with romantic wooden houses and tree-lined avenues, has been a well-known resort since the 19th century. Lahemaa National Park boasts virgin forests with beautiful lakes, rivers, fishing villages and historic manor houses. Some other important cities are Tartu, Narva, Kohtlajarve and Viljandi.
Estonian people are mainly Lutheran and Orthodox and their official language is Estonian. The country has warm summers and cold winters. Estonia's currency is the Kroon. National dishes include sult (jellied veal) and rosolje (vinaigrette with herring and beets).
