OVERVIEW
Bordered by Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece, Albania is a wild and mountainous country featuring vast forests, sandy beaches, incredibly beautiful lakes and an untouched southern coastline. The capital city, Tirana, proudly preserves many examples of early 19th-century architecture such as the Ethem-Bey Mosque and the 35m-high clocktower. Some other important cities are Durres, Shkoder and Vlore.
Albanian people are mainly Muslim and their official language is Albanian. The country has cool, wet winters and dry, hot summers. Albanian food includes dishes such as fergese tirane, a hot fried dish of meat, liver, eggs and tomatoes; and tave kosi or tave elbanasi, a mutton and yoghurt dish, just to name a few. The country's currency is the Lek.
