OVERVIEW
Lying south of St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines are part of the Windward Islands. St. Vincent, like all the Windwards, is volcanic and mountainous with lush vegetation and black sand beaches. The Grenadines are also lush.
Kingstown, capital of St. Vincent, is an active port and market town on the southern coast. The town consists of 12 small blocks with a diversity of shops and a bustling dock area.
Bequia is an island lying 14km (9 miles) south of St. Vincent and is the largest of the Grenadines. Admiralty Bay, the island's natural harbour, is a popular anchoring spot for yachtsmen from all over the world.
Southward, the next port of call is Mustique, a precious stone in the ocean taking up only 4.5 sq km (2 sq miles). Green hills roll into soft white-sand beaches and turquoise waters.
Local people are mainly Anglican and their official language is English. The islands have a tropical climate with a dry season (January to April) and a rainy season (July to October). Among the local specialties, red snapper, kingfish, and souse (a sauce made from pigs' foot), just to name a few. St. Vincent's currency is the East Caribbean Dollar.
Some tips to take into account when visiting St. Vincent: the electricity runs on 220 Volts and the country code is 784.
