OVERVIEW
Chile is like a long narrow strip and makes up the western part of South America's tail. Its capital city is Santiago. Other major cities include Concepcion-Talcahuano, Vina del Mar-Valparaiso, Antofagasta and Temuco.
Visitors are attracted to this country because of its number of natural attractions: a land where rivers, glaciers, valleys, mountains, volcanoes, lakes, forests, deserts, icy fjords and sandy beaches sit side by side. It also has some superb National Parks, including Easter Island famous for its mysterious giant statues, and numerous activities for those who enjoy open-air activities.
Chile differs from its neighbouring countries (with their strongly-indigenous lifestyles) as it has a firm European heritage. However, an interesting and distinctive idiosyncrasy characterises Chile as there are still local traditions mingling the European influence. The people are lively, kind and warm throughout all the country.
Chile also offers exquisite wines and seafood, singular handicrafts and shopping, and a variety of characteristic architecture, making it a great, unforgettable holiday destination.
Chilean people are mainly Roman Catholic and their official language is Spanish. Chile has a mild Mediterranean climate with a wet season (from May to August). The country's currency is the Chilean Peso.
