OVERVIEW
Anguilla, lying at the northern end of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean Sea, is a small British dependency. It is a semiarid coral island lying at the sea-level with an area of 91 sq km (35 sq mi) and a maximum elevation of 61 m (200 ft). Its commercial agricultural development is hindered by its dry climate and thin soil.
Anguilla hosts some wonderful beaches, and tourism and British aid play a main role in the economy. Most locals are in fishing and subsistence farming, with crops such as pigeon peas, sweet potatoes, Indian corn, and beans.
Anguillan people are mainly Anglican and their official language is English. The country has a tropical climate. Anguilla's currency is the East Caribbean Dollar.
