OVERVIEW
Launceston, situated in the north east of the county, was built on a hill.
You can visit two historic buildings: the
Launceston Castle, located high on a motte, which commanded the town, the surrounding countryside and the most important routes leading to Cornwall, and the Church of St. Mary Magdalene with its fine intricate carvings covering the outside walls.
Visitors can also live an unfergattable experience on the Launceston Steam Railway, which uses locomotives, the newest of which is over 100 years old. It has open or closed carriages that take you on 5-mile round trips from historic Launceston to Newmills. Other attractions consist of shops, cafes, museum and children's play area.
