OVERVIEW
The city of Geelong is situated on Corio Bay, 75 km. west of Melbourne. It is Victoria's largest provincial city.
The Port of Geelong has always been an important one. At present it despatches agricultural and industrial products to national areas well as international markets.
Though Geelong has historically been known for its industrial prosperity, the growth of tourism through the last three decades, has fostered a review of the city's rich heritage. Some 200 National Trust classifications have been listed in the city, and the fact of being located near the pretty Bellarine Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road, have turned it into a favourite holiday centre for tourists.
Its popularity has also been enhanced a great deal with the establishing of a National Wool Museum, a Maritime Museum and a wine industry. It is within an hour of a number of national parks and there are some of Australia's best golf courses in and around the city. It is worth spending a few days in Greelog as there is so much to do, see, enjoy and explore there.
