OVERVIEW
The city of Wollongong, known as the regional capital of the Illawarra, is located on the southern outskirts of Sydney, with 30 kilometres of spectacular coastline. It provides visitors with a great variety of activities which include adventure sports, as well as leisure activities such as fishing, windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving, parasailing, abseiling, rock climbing, hang gliding and mountain biking. There is also a 60 km spectacular cycleway network along the coastline. And some great walking trails for bush walking lovers.
You can also admire marvellous and varied natural scenery in the Royal National Park to the north of Wollongong. Following the fantastic coastline southwards you can find attractions such as Sublime Point (Austinmer), Helensburgh, Bald Hill and Lawrence Hargrave Memorial (Stanwell Park), Scarborough Hotel (Scarborough), and Rhododendron Gardens (Mount Pleasant).
In the central area the attractions include the Wollongong City Mall, Science Centre and Planetarium, Belmore Basin, Flagstaff Hill, Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, Illawarra Museum, Wollongong Entertainment Centre, Mount Keira Summit Park (Mount Keira) and the Wollongong Botanic Garden (Gwynneville).
Keeping your way to the south you will find Port Kembla Harbour, Breakwater Battery War Museum (Port Kembla), Nan Tien Temple (Berkeley), Illawarra Motoring Museum (Kembla Grange), Lake Illawarra (Windang), Illawarra Yacht Club (Warrawong) and Yallah Woolshed (Yallah).
