OVERVIEW
Aalborg is the fourth largest city of Denmark and the regional capital of Northern Jutland - the region which enjoys the most hours of sunshine.
Aalborg is famous for its many restaurants, cafes and bars which can be found in Jomfru Ane Gade, Aalborg's longest street.
Some points of interest include Jens Bang's House, a five-storey brick renaissance house and the Budolfi Cathedral, a former Catholic Chapel with some fine frescoes. Aalborg is also known for its Viking origins so you cannot miss visiting the Lindholm Hoje where you will find one of the most important remains from Danish antiquity.
Aalborg's most important cultural events are Denmark's only opera festival held in March, a folkloric carnival in May, re-enacted Viking dramas in June and a Jazz and Blues Festival in August.
Other places of interests are Aalborg Zoo, the big amusement park of Tivoliland, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Aalborg Tower where you can have a drink in the bistro atop a 105-metre observation tower. First distilled in Aalborg in 1864, the drink Aalborg Aquavit is now drunk world-wide.
If you are interested in music, do not miss the concerts of the local symphony orchestra at Aalborg Congress and Culture Centre or the wide variety of world music entertainment and jazz at Huset or Skraen. It is also possible to enjoy daily live concerts in cafes and bars in down-town Aalborg.
