Situated in the province of Alicante, Denia was founded by the Romans in honour to the goddess Diana. Now the city boasts an excellent coastline, sandy beaches, and many historical sites.
Denia is characterized by one-storey houses with white facades, red-tiled roofs, and porches known as 'riu-rau'.
Some of Denia's most important tourist attractions include the Muslim castle, now a museum; the church of Asunción, with Renaissance and Baroque reredos; the City Hall, featuring two memorial tablets from the ancient temple of Diana; and the avenue of Marques de Campo.
Denia also holds the fiesta 'Bous a la mar' (bulls in the water), which has been declared of National Tourist Interest.
