Situated in the province of Castile-Leon, the city of Burgos boasts a medieval charm and a historical heritage which visitors will love.
Burgos is also known as the birthplace of 'El Cid', a medieval national hero who fought against the Moors during the early Reconquista.
Some of Burgos' main attractions include the Cathedral, a Gothic building featuring a remarkable portal called 'Puerta del Sarmental'; the Monasterio of Las Huelgas, housing Alfonso VIII's tomb; the Casa del Cordon, an impressive palace; San Lesmes Church, containing the tomb of the city's patron; Cartuja de Miraflores, a 15th century church; and the Archeological Museum. In addition, you can also visit the old city-walls.
But Burgos is not only history and architecture: 'Queso de Burgos' (Burgos' cheese) is one of the specialties the city can offer. Around the cathedral there are plenty of bars and pubs where you can taste 'tapas' (snacks) and drink excellent wines.
