OVERVIEW
Situated in the Basque region of northern Spain, Bilbao is an industrial city with much to offer.
Some places of interest include the Guggenheim Museum, which houses works of Picasso and Andy Warhol, and features 19 galleries; the 14th century Church of Santiago, an example of Gothic architecture; and the fabulous Museum of Archaeology.
In the Casco Viejo you can find plenty of fashionable cafes and fine restaurants as well as pubs, bars and nightclubs. During the Mid-August Festival the whole city comes alive with song and dance.
The best time to visit the city is in Spring, since the temperature can reach up to 20C around April and May.
You can access the city by air, Bilbao Airport is eight kilometres to the north; and by train, there are day and night trains runnning from Madrid's Chamartin Station, and two a day from Barcelona.
