Situated on the banks of the Guadiana River, near the border with Portugal, Badajoz is a city of Arab walls, interesting monuments and charming streets and porches.
Some of Badajoz's main tourist attractions are the Alcazaba, featuring Almohad walls surrounding beautiful gardens; the Regional Archaeological Museum, in the Palace of the Dukes of Roca; the City Hall, in Plaza de Espana; the cathedral of Bajdajoz, with beautiful Renaissance ornamental pieces; and the Extremaduran Museum of Spanish-American Contemporary Art, displaying Spanish, Extremaduran, Portuguese and Latin American art from 1980 to the present.
