OVERVIEW
Capital of the largest province of Spain, Castilla-Leon, Valladolid boasts lush gardens, magnificent sculptures, old churches and monuments. The city is also famous for its Holy Week processions.
Some of Valladolid's main attractions include the Museo Nacional de Escultura, displaying an extraordinary collection of works by Spanish artists from the 16th and 17th centuries; the Metropolitan Cathedral, in a masonry style; the Dominican Convent of San Pablo, founded by the wife of Alfonso X, the Wise; the Palacio Real, featuring a tower at each side; and the Museo Oriental.
Valladolid is also famous for its university (the second oldest in Spain) and for 'The English College', where priests for the English and Welsh Mission were trained. In addition, this is where Christopher Columbus and Cervantes lived. Their homes have been converted into museums.
