OVERVIEW
Situated on the island of Majorca, Palma is a perfect holiday destination with a lovely historical old town, sunny beaches and tree-lined boulevards.
You can access the island by air, Palma de Mallorca Airport is just southeast of the city; by bus, there is a regular service to the city centre and around the island; and by ferry, there is a regular daily service from Barcelona and Valencia to Majorca and other Balearic Islands.
Palma's most important places of interest are the 13th century Gothic Cathedral La Seo with the Palau de l'Almudaina (Muslim castle) and the Museu de Mallorca. If you are interested in Gothic architecture take a stroll along the tangled web of cobbled lanes. Behind the city, there is a hill with spectacular views of the town and sea, which also features a series of winding ramblas (avenues).
Water sports include jet-skiing, windsurfing and snorkelling. Fishing is also a popular activity. There are plenty of bodegas, tapas bars and many nightclubs.
Visitors choose Palma for its ideal climate, little rain and average summer temperatures at 30C.
