Located in northwestern Spain, the city of Leon boasts a breathtaking landscape as well as architecture combining Moorish and Christian styles.
Visitors can enjoy Leon's landscape in the Picos de Europa National Park, the area of Las Medulas (a World Heritage Site) and the winter resort of San Isidro.
Some of Leon's main attractions include the Cathedral and Basilica of San Isidro, one of the most important temples in Spain; the City Hall, also known as the 'Balcony of the City'; the Palace of Los Guzmanes, whose main facade dates back to the 16th century; the Casa de Los Botines, designed by the architect Antonio Gaudi; the Plaza Mayor; Casa de las Carnicerias, now an exhibition hall; the Palace of Count Luna, featuring a 14th-century Gothic facade with Arab influences; and the Hostal de San Marcos, which was once a pilgrims' hospital and shelter and the seat of the Order of Santiago.
Leon offers a wide variety of bars and restaurants where visitors can taste some of the region's specialties: Maragato stew, frog's legs, beef sweetbreads, excellent wines as well as pastries and cakes.
