OVERVIEW
Located on the south western coast of Ireland, Cork is the largest of the Irish counties and has always been an important seaport.
The Blackwater River Valley is known mainly for riding, fishing and historic architecture. East Cork is famous for having some of the best food in Ireland as well as some incredible golf courses.
The county started as a monastic settlement and was later expanded by the Anglo-Normans and the English colonists. Wider streets and delicate town houses were built during the Georgian and Victorian periods. The industrial revolution has also left its mark in the docks and warehouses.
