OVERVIEW
Situated in a valley in the western region of the Neckar River, Stuttgart is a city of old palaces, green parks and charming cafes.
You can access the city by air, Stuttgart Echterdingen Airport is just 14kms south of the city; by car; by train, there are 45 daily trains from Munich and 30 trains from Frankfurt; or by bus, there are several ong-distance bus services from many German cities.
Stuttgart has a pedestrian-friendly centre, thus the main shopping area is closed to traffic. Some of the city's main attractions include the lovely Schlossgarten (palace garden), housing the Schloss Rosenstein (Natural History Museum); the Wilhelma Botanical Gardens and Zoo, on the northern side of Rosensteinpark; the Mercedes Benz Museum, displaying the first car ever built.
If you want to relax, visit the Bad Cannstatt mineral baths, featuring hot and cold mineral baths, saunas and swimming pools. The Staatstheater is the city's leading cultural venue. Stuttgart is also home to clothing designers Hugo Boss and Ulli Knecht.
Stuttgart has mild winters (as low as 1C in December) and warm summers (around 20C).
