Situated in the Neckar River Valley, Heidelberg is an enchanting university town.
You can access the city by air, Frankfurt International Airport is the nearest major airport; by car; or by train, Heidelberg's Hauptbahnhof is a major railroad station on the Mannheim line.
Heidelberg's main feature is a beautiful castle accessed by cable car from the town centre. Here you can visit the large wine cask and the Apothecaries Museum.
Some interesting architectural examples include the Hexen Tower, Jesuit Church, Karlstor Gate, Hercules Fountain, the Church of the Holy Ghost, the Bruckentor Gate and the Alte Brucke Bridge.
The city offers many first class hotels and excellent restaurants as well as bars, cafes, clubs and pubs. Zum Roten Ochsen (Red Ox Inn), the city's most famous tavern, opened in 1703 and has seen many pass through its doors, including Mark Twain.
Heidelberg has mild winters and warm summers.
