Located on the banks of the Elbe, Dresden is a city with charming riverside landscapes.
You can access the city by air, Dresden Airport receives direct and connecting flights from transatlantic and European destinations; by bus; or by car.
The city boasts many examples of baroque architecture such as the Zwinger by Poppelmann and Permoser, the Blockhaus, the Taschenberg Palais and the Frauenkirche church. Some other places of interest include the Old Masters Art Gallery, housing the Sistine Madonna by Raffael; the New Masters Gallery, displaying important works from the Romantic period to the present; and the Dresden Semper Opera House, one of the most famous opera houses in the world.
The most important relaxing area is around Martin-Luther-Platz, featuring an alternative city culture with its own theatre, modern music and pubs.
The best time to visit Dresden is between June and September when temperatures reach 25C. October to May are a lot cooler with the temperature falling to -1C in January.
