OVERVIEW
Located in the Auvergne region in central France, Clermont-Ferrand originally used to be two separate cities. Now, it is a lively university town with two historical centres, charming cafes, bars and restaurants.
In addition, Clermont-Ferrand is the home of the Michelin tyre empire, also famous for producing guide books.
Some of Clermont-Ferrand's main tourist attractions include the Notre-Dame Cathedral, built out of black lava called Volvic stone; the Notre-Dame-du-Port, a Romanesque basilica; Place St Pierre, featuring a daily food market; Amboise Fountain, sculpted during the Renaissance period; the Musee Bargoin, displaying Roman artifacts; and the Montferrand Old Town Centre, boasting mansions and fine old houses from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
