OVERVIEW
Situated in a natural harbour in Brittany, the city of Brest is home to the French national fleet.
You can access the city by air, it has an international airport; by car; by train, TGV high-speed trains leave from Paris (gare Montparnasse); or by ferry, the nearest ferry port to Brest is Roscoff, which receives several crossings daily from Plymouth.
Some of Brest's main attractions are the old castle, a 15th century structure which houses the Musee National de la Marine; the 14th century Tour Tanguy, on the opposite bank of the Penfeld River and now home to the Musee de Vieux Brest; and the Oceanopolis, a futuristic complex beside the Port de Plaisance du Moulin-Blanc.
Rue Jean-Jaurs offers plenty of bistros and bars, while place Guerin is the centre of the busy student-dominated quartier St-Martin.
The winters are mild with temperatures of around 7C while the summers only reach about 16C.
