Situated on the Bay of Biscay, the city of Bordeaux is a popular destination due to its excellent wine;exciting atmosphere and 18th century magnificence.
You can access the city by train, high-speed TGV trains connect the city;to Paris, Marseilles and Nice; by car; or by train, Gare St-Jean receives 16 trains a day from Paris.
The city's most important landmark is the Cathedral St-Andre, dating from the 12th century as well as the 15th century belfry, Tour Pey-Berland, open to the public. Museums include Musee dAquitaine, displaying prehistoric artefacts; the Musee des Beaux-Arts, featuring Flemish, Dutch and Italian works from the 17th century; and the Musee dHistoire Naturelle (Natural History Museum), situated in the lovely Jardin Public.
Known for its cabernet sauvignons, the Medoc is Bordeaux' wine growing region. Chateau Margaux and Chateau Palmer produce some of the world's most;famous red wines.
Bordeaux;has a mild climate and the best time to visit it is in the spring.
