Situated on the banks of the Loire, Orleans is best known for its saint, Jeanne d'Arc. An ideal time to visit Orleans is on Jeanne d'Arc's Day (May 8), when the city comes alive with parades.
You can access the city by air, most visitors fly from Paris' Charles de Gaulle or Orly airports; by car; by train; or by bus.
Some of the city's main attractions include the Cathedrale Ste-Joan, having survived over 600 years of wars; the Maison de Jeanne d'Arc, a reconstruction of the saint's house; Sainte Croix Cathedral; the Musee des Beaux-Arts, displaying important works of art; the medieval University of Orleans; and the Museum de Sciences Naturelles, featuring a large rooftop tropical greenhouse.
Parc Pasteur is an ideal place for a picnic. Rue de Bourgogne has a wide variety of nightspots as well as restaurants. Located near gare SNCF, the Centre d'Arc is a modern shopping centre where you can find the local tourist office.
Summers are generally hot with temperatures up to 25C, while winters are rather cold.
