OVERVIEW
Located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in south France, Nimes boasts more than 2000 years of history, architecture and art. It has a strong Roman influence.
Places of interest in Nimes include the Roman Arena, an amphitheatre formerly used for hunting wild animals and gladiator combats; the Jardins de la Fontaine, housing the Tour Magne and the temple of Diana; the Cathedral of Notre Dame and Saint Castor, built in 1096; Neumasus, a complex of two aluminium buildings resembling ocean liners; and the Fine Arts Museum, displaying works by French, Flemish, Dutch and Italian painters.
In addition, visitors can stroll along the country surrounding Nimes, taste the city's excellent cuisine or just relax at one of its many cafes.
