OVERVIEW
Situated on the Mediterranean coast, Montpellier is a university city best known for its medical school founded in the 13th century and attended by Nostradamus and Rabelaisfor. It is also a city of tree-lined promenades, broad avenues as well as interesting historic monuments.
You can access the city by air, via Paris' Charles de Gaulle or Orly airports; by car; or by train.
In the ancient fortified section of the city, visitors can find the Tour des Pins and Tour de la Babotte, remains of the original twenty-five towers that once surrounded the city. Also of interest, the churches of St Roch and St Anne.
In addition, you can wander or have a picnic at the Bois de Montmaurand and Parc Agropolis, or visit the Zoo de Lunaret.
Montpellier has a dry and warm climate with temperatures around 23C in summer.
