OVERVIEW
Former capital of Provence, the city of Aix-en-Provence is renowned for its lively celebrations and support of the arts. International students have been attracted to its Universite dAix since 1413.
You can access the city by air, the easiest way is to fly to Marseilles and transfer to Aix-en-Provence by ground transport; by car; by train, there are twenty-one trains a day from Marseilles; or by bus, from Marseilles, Avignon and Nice.
The city features plenty of museums such as the Musee Granet, Pavillon Vendome, Musee des Tapisseries and Ecole dArt. It also helds summer festivals of music, opera and dance: Saison dAix (June to August), symphonic and chamber music; the Jazz Festival (end of July); the Festival International de Danse (three weeks, July to August), classical and modern dance.
There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops as well as charming markets. Place des Cardeurs and rue de la Verrerie offer a wide variety of restaurants, brasseries and cafes.
Summer temperatures are around 23C and the winters are pleasant and warm.
