Situated in the northwest of the Kyushu region, Nagasaki comprises five peninsulas and many islands. For a long time, it has played an important role as a transportation point facing the continent. The city is also known for being the second atomic bomb target during World War II.
Nagasaki's major scenic spots include Kujuku-shima Islands of the Saikai National Park, and the main peak Fugen-dake of the volcano Unzen-dake, situated in the Shimabara-hanto Peninsula.
