OVERVIEW
Located in the central part of the Japanese mainland, Nagano Prefecture is a popular holiday destination as well as a cultural center. In 1998 it hosted the Winter Olympic Games.
Nagano features three volcanic mountains, Nasu, Fuji and Norikura, and the Japan Alps Mountains on the west. In winter, ski-lovers visit the city's many ski resorts. Also of interest, Jyoestu Kogen National Park, which has Mt. Asama and Mt. Yokote; Minami Alps National Park; and Chubu Sangakau National Park.

You can also visit Karuizawa, one of the most famous summer resorts in Japan; Zenko-ji Temple in Nagano City, as well as the castle cities of Ueda and Matsumoto. |
In addition, the city features many hot springs including Nozawa onsen, and Shibu onsen famous for its bathing monkeys at Jigokudani Yaen Koen (Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park).
