OVERVIEW
Located on the northern region of the Japanese main island, Aomori is divided by the Ou Mountains, thus, having different climates - lots of snow on the Japan Sea side and low temperatures even in the summer on the Pacific Ocean side.
Aomori abounds in nature. Some examples include the Shirakami-Sanchi Mountain Range with the world's largest virgin forest of beech trees; Oirase, famous for its impressive valley; Lake Towada-ko; Tsugaru National Park which boasts of scenery; and Shimokita-hanto Peninsula Quasi-National Park. Visitors can also explore the San'nai-Maruyama Ruins, Japan's largest; Korekawa Ruins and Kame-ga-oka Ruins.
Among the festivals, the Aomori Nebuta-matsuri Festival and the Hirosaki Neputa-matsuri Festival can be mentioned. Also of interest, Iwaki Oyama Pilgrimage in Iwaki Town, and Hachinohe Enburi in Hachinohe City, a traditional winter festival.
