OVERVIEW
Situated against the Godavari river, the city of Nashik has an ancient past which can be seen in its relics and spectacular temples. The city is also famous for its spires and domes overlooking industrial estates and residential areas.
Some of Nashik's main attractions include Sunder Narayan Temple, which during the equinoxes, the rays of the early morning sun fall at the feet of Lord Narayana's idol; Rameshwar or Naro Shankar Temple, an impressive white marble structure; Sita Gupha, a cave where Sita hid from Ravana; the Balaji Temple, displaying copper images of Balaji, Ramadevi and Laxmi; and the Ram Kund (pool), whose holy water is believed to grant moksha (liberation of the soul).
