Situated in Uttar Pradesh state, Agra is a railroad link as well as a commercial and industrial center.
Agra's most important attractions are the Taj Mahal, built in memory of Shahjahan's favourite wife; and several other examples of Indo-Saracenic architecture, including the Jahangri Mahal, a white marble palace, also known as the Pearl Mosque, built during the early 17th century.
In Agra's markets, visitors can buy replicas of the Taj in marble. But there is also a stone called Talk, which is cheaper. Therefore, you should be careful when buying any marble item because these stones are very similar.
The city also boasts leather items, brass decorative pieces and stone carved images, carpet weaving and floor coverings, the Zardosi and embroidery work, stone inlay work and durries.
The main shopping areas include Taj Mahal complex, Kinari Bazaar, Raja Mandi, Sadar Bazaar. the Gangotri at Taj Mahal Complex and the Up Handlooms.
Summers are very hot and winters are cold, thus the temperature difference between these seasons is very high. Although the monsoon brings cool winds it leaves the city very dirty. The best time to visit the city is between March and October.
