OVERVIEW
Situated on the south bank of the Yangtze River, Nanjing is one of the six oldest capitals of China, which today is a significant educational and cultural center. It is a city of tree-lined streets, hills and lakes.
Some of the city's most important historical moments were during the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) and the establishment of the People's Republic of China (early 20th century). Several of the city's historical sites belong to these periods, including the Sun Yatsen's Mausoleum and the Ming Tombs.
The city also has a mantra "man zou" (go slow) which reflects the cautious and reserved attitude of many of the city's residents.
