Part of the Western Ionian Islands, the island of Corfu boasts excellent sandy beaches, beautiful landscapes, and amazing cypresses and olive groves.
Corfu Town, its capital, features two astonishing Venetian fortresses, wide avenues, large squares, and charming harbors and bays. Places of interest include the Archaeological Museum, displaying findings from local excavations; the Byzantine Museum, with a fine collection of icons; the Museum of Asiatic Art; and the Town Hall, a 17th-century Venetian building.
In addition, the island of Corfu has plenty more to offer in the rest of the villages- the Monastery of Vlacherna at Kanoni; a 13th century church on the island of Pondikonissi; the Achillion Palace at Gastouri; and the seaside resorts of Ipsos, Kassiopi and Sidari.
