Part of the Cyclades Islands, Andros is a green island characterized by olive groves, vineyards and pine trees.
Andros Town, its capital, features typical white cottages, neoclassical town house and even the remains of a 13th-century Venetian castle.
Places of interest in Andros include the Archaeological Museum, with a valuable collection of findings from the excavations on the island; the Museum of Modern Art, featuring exhibitions of contemporary Greek artists; the Maritime Museum; Paleopolis, the island's ancient port; Panachrantou Monastery at Falika; and the Byzantine Church of Taxiarchon in Messaria.
Andros also has many excellent beaches, with Batsi being the largest. The main port is Gavrio, west of Andros Town.
