OVERVIEW
Situated at the northern end of the Cape Peninsula, Cape Town is a tail of mountains that hangs down from the tip of Africa, ending at the Cape of Good Hope.
This historic city is characterized by its beauty and style. Not far from Cape Town, you will find 18th-century Cape Dutch manors, historic wineries, and white-sand beaches backed by steep mountains.
Table Mountain is Cape Town's main attraction. In the afternoon, when the first clouds appear over the mountain and reach toward the city, the whole town seems to shiver and hold its breath.
Cape Town is black, white, and colored. At present, it is inhabited by more than 1 million coloreds (people of mixed race, Malay, Indian, or of Khoikhoi or slave descent) who give it a distinct spice.
The annual Coon Carnival is the greatest celebration of this colored culture, in District Six, a predominantly colored but truly multiracial neighborhood which was tragically destructed during apartheid in Cape Town.
